Things are getting back to normal, at least as normal as it ever gets around here... :) I am so glad to be back home, sleeping in my own bed. The temperature is definitely changing, we had a hard freeze the other night, it got down well below 30 degrees F, what was left in the garden is now dead. I harvested a bunch of lettuce seeds, I'll have more than enough for next year, I'll put them with the other seeds I harvested from my garden.
When I left, everything was green, now everything is noticeably not green, the grass looks like straw, there are big puffy seed heads on long stalks of straw, some of these are waist high, they nod back and forth in the gentle breeze. Fall is definitely here and winter is not far behind.
Now to the main part of this message, a couple of months ago, I was contacted by Nick Rosen, the owner of Off-Grid.net, he invited me to start writing on his site. I took some time to decide whether or not I wanted to do this, I pondered the pros and cons. The biggest con is the fact that the site isn't mine, (mine, mine, all mine!), how much control would I have over my work? Would I retain the copyright? Well the good news is that I do have complete control and maintain all rights to my works. The really good side to all of this is I have a larger audience, (more people to leave comments!). Just curious. I am constantly thinking about because what you are doing is something I would like to do. I just need that internet.

Congrats on the new writing gig! Sounds excellent - especially retaining copyrights. Surprised about your weather though - it has yet to reach freezing here in East Texas (at least where we are). It came close earlier this week, but didn't cross the line. West Texas weather is definitely more varied and different than I originally thought! Provides more fuel for my own speculation about West Texas land. As usual, an excellent post - thank you for sharing.

Did you get to experience any of the earthquakes out there? I am so surprised about the earthquakes in the DFW area, I spoke to my dad, he lives between Dallas and Ft Worth, he said there were 6 quakes, he felt 2 of them. I think it might have something to do with all the gas drilling they are doing now.

I have noticed that if you aren't signed in to Off-Grid.net you don't see my new stuff that I post, I don't know why that is, that's another reason why I am posting links to my new messages here. I am trying to get that problem fixed.

Just following up - didn't get to feel the earthquakes here - a bit too far east I suspect. I used to live in the metroplex, and I can't imagine what that must have been like. I know they were "mild", but I can't remember ever hearing of earthquakes in north / central Texas, and I've lived here most of my life.

ReplyDeleteMy Dad felt 2 of the quakes, he lives between Ft Worth and Dallas. He has lived in California and KNOWS what earthquakes feel like. I think it's funny that people called 911 for these small earthquakes, what are they going to do about it???!!! Now, if these had been BIG ones, then yes, call in, but for these little quakes, give me a break... ;)
