Why are you interested in this lifestyle? to be self sufficient. so we don't have to answer to anyone or report to anone. so we can do what we want without someone else telling us what/when to do it.

Hi! Great blog...married with 1 teenager. Im in my 50's. AA degree in general studies and work (actually not much lately) in construction. really not many hobbies except surfing the internet and gardening. I live in coastal CA and found you through blog link. Have been visiting regularly for about 1 year.Not off grid now but want to. Family think I am nuts but I want to save on utilities and not be dependent on the state.

We are living off the grid - 100% - our family & friends think we're nuts for choosing this lifestyle!!
We're wanting to be self-sufficient due to the declining economy & stuff that's going on in the world... the end is surely near!
What would you like to know about me?
Our goals are to be 100% self-sufficient but to be so comes with a price... and we're trying to be frugal.
It is interesting to read comments like, "people think we are nuts" for living off-grid. I've often wondered how to explain how logical off-grid living is to others. There is a new book with several online chapters here called "Surviving Off Off-Grid" that presents a wonderful way to tell your family/friends about the off-grid way of life.

nope, but I do live on my in laws family farm which one day my husband and I hope to buy from his parents and i hope to convince him to go off grid but he isn't too keen on the idea

my husband doesn't mind the survivalist stuff but he likes the niceties of live a bit much, though I have a few years to bring him around

I'v always wondered how people used to live before the modern niceties. That and when I was younger I seriously loved the My Side of the Mountain book and Hatchet.
