I found a good source of ebooks (pdf's), these are all out of print books, about homesteading, check it out, oh and they are free to download. I snagged a few myself. :)

How are books published in 1980 and 2005 free to distribute? Chances are excellent this is illegal.
ReplyDeleteHow are you keeping a blog without electricity?
Hi Christine, the books I saw there (and downloaded) were very old, I didn't look at each and every one though, so I can't say.
ReplyDeleteAs far as your second question, I never said I didn't have electricity, I just make it myself. Being off grid doesn't mean I live in a cave, I have a simple, but effective power system consisting of solar panels, a charge controller, a set of deep cycle batteries, inverters, (for the 110V stuff), some 12V stuff, and a plethora of miscellaneous stuff to make everything work. I have lights, a computer, a few kitchen gadgets that run on electricity.
Read my blog, chances are excellent you will learn more about how I live. :)
Christine, I went back to that site distributing the books, I looked at several books that were published within the time period you specify, the authors and/or publishers gave permission for electronic copies of these publications to be freely distributed over the internet. Some did it for educational reasons, some did it because of poor sales, wanting to get the word out about their book in hopes that it would inspire hard copy sales... so I'm not worried about the legality of this site, it would seem that they are doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteCome back and visit my site if you want, this time stay longer than 4 minutes, you can read all about how I live 100% off grid, I know you like to read based on your blog. :)

I love the thought of free e-books. I've never downloaded a book before, so I guess I should try it. Do you just save it as a file, or does it go to your Media Player Library, or something? I guess the answer is to try it! Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteAllen, you download it to your hard drive, they are usually PDF files, sometimes it will be a DOC or TXT file, sometimes it will be a stand alone ebook, most of the time it will be a PDF. It will not play in your media player.
